These photographs are mere suggestions of Pittsburgh. In making them, I’ve searched for some undercurrent of spirit — a psychology of place. These images are meant to be more poems than encyclopedias—a subjective meditation on place told through things rolling down hills, idiosyncrasies, and things coming unmade.

Pittsburgh fascinates me. There is something new around every corner, places I’ve never been. These are the locations I’ve sought out — the quiet of the dead ends and the switchbacks, the derelict and the insulated. When all these pictures are pieced together, I hope the viewer will be able to identify something in them that is uniquely Pittsburgh.
